Future of Voip (Skype) in Russia

Russia is one of the countries where Voip is very popular. A large number of Russian voip pvoriders are there in this voip market. However as we all know that Voip tend to lower the calling rates, it leads to hamper the sales/profits of other telecom provider.

The Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs proposed Thursday to crack down or ban phone calls through Internet-based services like Skype and Zebra Telecom. What may be the possible reason is simple that Skype is very popluar in Russia and people prefer it over local telecom provider. So, now the officials from Russia have come to picture and trying to limit the use of Voip in Russia (The cellular giant MegaFon and Transtelecom are losing money because of Voip..).

“Most IP telephony market brands, such as Skype and ICQ, are foreign, and that is why we have to protect the domestic producer in this sphere,” RSPP said in a statement. Well the statement says it all.


So, now the future of Russian voip is in dark area now. Many people are using Russian voip provider like Flaphone (what about its future..). We will keep you updated about it.
