Review Developments on Windows Phone Mangos Games Hub Revealed

http://www.gadget.com/files/2011/06/mangogameshub.jpg

Microsoft has introduced the latest developments on its Windows Phone Mango, particularly with its new Games Hub. One of the biggest changes on the Hub is that it now features that were used to be relegated to a separate Xbox Live Extras app. This includes Xbox Live messaging, integrated achievements, and the ability to edit the users Xbox Live profile down to its fully animated 3D avatars. Players can even compare their achievements with their friends.

The 3D avatars even move depending on how the user treats the Windows Phone. Shaking the phone would make the avatar dance or even faint; abusing the phone too much and the avatar might even lash out at the user.

Another improvement is the Hubs Collection view that lets users manage their installed Windows Phone games more easily. Games are used to be sorted alphabetically, featuring the icon on the left of the list and the name on the right. Now, if the phone has more than 20 games, the list would feature the last three titles the user has played.

Seeing these developments make me more excited about its Fall release.

REVIEW: Under the JDome at E3 2011

While at E3, there was a huge area devoted to an organization known as Pro Vs. GI Joe. According to their official website: Pro vs. GI Joe sets up real-time video game competitions between professional athletes, musicians, celebrities, high-ranking military officials & politicians in the states and troops stationed overseas via online gaming.

In other words, it gives the chance for bigwigs to play video games with the everyday soldier. The purpose of their E3 booth was to get more donations, but at display was the jDome. For those who arent aware, the jDome is a cloth hemisphere designed to be a very immersive type of gaming screen. I have reported on it before, but I finally got a chance to try it out.

Standing before it really makes me feel like I am actually there. It is good for first person shooters, but without my feet moving, the illusion felt incomplete. Perhaps I could have a treadmill under my feet, but Im guessing I would lose my balance. Apparently, the jDome helps the military train. and they play a lot of Call of Duty, which doesnt surprise me.

Was the jDome the most immersive thing that I saw at E3? Actually, no. As far as sound was concerned, that award goes to the KOR-FX. As for vision, youll have to read about Replicating Reality. If you want to find out more about the jDome, read up on the official site here.

REVIEW >> Japanese News Confirms Nintendos New Controller to Have Touchscreen, Camera

A Japan-based newspaper has reported that Nintendos upcoming gaming system, which is codenamed Project Cafe, will have touchscreen controllers with built-in cameras. This report has confirmed, or at least given more credibility, long-running rumors about the next-gen Nintendo Wii.

Nikkei added that the controller will have a six-inch touchscreen display and camera, as well as tablet-like functionality. Thinking about it, the console might look like a Wii being controlled by a slimmer Nintendo DSi. How that would work? We will have to find out.

Nintendo is set to unveil this new gaming gadget at this years E3 next week.

REVIEW: THQ uDraw GameTablet Gives Xbox 360 and PS3 the Wii U Experience

The introduction of Nintendos Wii U gaming system may have made some people wondering whether Microsoft and Sony would create their own touchscreen controllers, much like how the two companies created the Kinect and PlayStation Move, respectively, in response to Nintendo Wiis motion gaming. Actually, they have, but with a gaming device created by a third party.

THQ comes up with the uDraw GameTablet, a slate device that would cater to both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Like the Wii U controller, it has a touchscreen display that also can be used for drawing and handwriting. However, it is noticeably thinner than the Wii U counterpart mainly due to the lack of a Wiimote holder, something the two other consoles do not need.

So far, both Xbox 360 and PS3 have yet to unveil games that will support the uDraw, but the device itself features uDraw Studio and Pictionary, which are bound to leave you busy for hours. Both versions of the THQ uDraw GameTablet will be available in November for less than $100.

REVIEW: Nyko Reveals Gear for Nearsighted Kinect and Longer-Lasting Nintendo 3DS

Gaming gear maker Nyko unveils an array of helpful accessories for your gaming devices at this years E3. First of the bunch is the Zoom for Kinect, a clip-on spectacles that is set right in front of Kinects sensor bar, allowing you to get 40 percent closer to the device with no loss of function. This makes motion gaming with Kinect a whole lot of fun even in smaller spaces.

Meanwhile, the Nyko Play Clock (pictured, left) is a charging dock for Nintendo 3DS that also functions as an alarm clock. Why you ask? Perhaps someone out there would rather use his 3DS as an wakee-upper rather than the iPhone, the iPod, or let alone an actual alarm clock.

Finally, Nyko rolls out not one, but three new extended battery packs for the Nintendo 3DS for longer battery life. The Shock n Rock brings triple battery life, vibration feedback, and four speakers. The Power Grip is an external battery that not only triples the battery life, but is also ergonomic to handle. And the Game Boost (pictured, right) is a simple snap-on accessory, giving your 3DS an extra hour or two of gameplay.

All of these accessories still have mysterious prices and availability dates, so you better keep an eye here for more updates.

With the Nintendo 3DS becoming a popular portable gaming console, other accessories may tend to give it some added useful features. Theres the Nyko Play Clock that would give your 3DS a unique feature while you are charging it. It might be reminiscent of those docking stations made for smartphones.

The Nyko Play Clock is a charging dock for the Nintendo 3DS that features more than just a charging facility for your portable gaming device. It also features an alarm clock as well as an AM/FM radio. It comes with its own powered stereo speakers that allow users to access music files stored on their 3DS and listen to it on the Nyko Play Clock. REVIEW: GA-Z68-Gaming - motherboard for gaming computers on Intel Z68 chipset

GIGABYTE has another motherboard based on Intel Z68 chipset. New device is called GA-Z68-Gaming and is positioned as a good basis to build a gaming computer, which will use second generation Intel Core processors.

Looking only at external design executed in the style of G1-Killer motherboards it becomes clear that GA-Z68-Gaming is not just another motherboard based on Intel Z68 chipset. Just like its older sisters G1.Assassin, G1.Sniper and G1.Guerrilla GA-Z68 is equipped with a Bigfoot Networks Killer E2100 network card and Creative Soundblaster X-Fi audio processor.

The developers have equipped this motherboard with two PCI Express x16 slots (supports installation of two video cards in SLI or CrossFire). It also has two PCI and two more PCI Express x1, and four slots for DDR3 RAM. GA-Z68-Gaming features seven ports SATA 6 Gb / sec for HDD. The rear panel features eight USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.0 ones, one eSATA port with speed up to 6 Gb / s and HDMI output, PS / 2 port, 3.5 mm sockets for a multi-channel acoustic and S / PDIF.

There is no information on GA-Z68-Gaming release date. Cost data is also unavailable but one can assume that the product will be offered at a price higher than their other GIGABYTE Motherboards based on Z68 chipset. Which means it will cost more than GIGABYTE Z68X-UD7.

REVIEW: PlayStation phone to be out in 2010

The rumors about PlayStation Phone are becoming stronger, with the appearance of this picture. Sony Ericsson is coming up with a model that would something between the PSP GO and the Samsung Captivate. It seems like the dives is coming out soon, and would be waiting for it very much. The customers should be able to download games from Sony Marketplace and enjoy games very much like those on PSP.

As for the device on the picture; it has a 1 GHz Qualcomm processor which gives it enough computing power to support Android 3.0 (the Gingerbread), along with 512MB of RAM and 1 GB of ROM. A device like that should have a decent screen and as we see here its about 3.8 to 4.2 inches.

It features microSD slot and instead of having a QWERTY keyboard, it has PlayStation controls with a D-pad and a big touchpad in the middle for analog controls. This would be the best phone for hard core gamers that love PlayStation.

REVIEW: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii, what is better

Here are three top consoles nowadays that you can choose from. Sony PlayStation 3 the next generation console that continues a glorious path of PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Xbox 360: the next console from Microsoft is created in continuation of Xbox. Finally Nintendo Wii the least expensive and shows the least performance.

So we are going to review and compare them on several parameters, so that you can decide which is better for yourself.

Hardware

Xbox 360 is on the second place by hardware parameters. First of all there are two models that you can buy. One of them is a regular white Xbox 360 with wired controllers and no hard drive. The upgraded model has wireless controllers and a 20 GB hard drive to save photos, videos and audio files. It also has a standard DVD optical drive that allows the console to show HD videos. The last thing that should you should be notified is that Microsoft will upgrade your Xbox 360 for free for it to support full GD 1080p video output.

Sony PlayStation 3 is in the first place if judged by hardware. It has Blue-ray drive that is not available on basic or premium Xbox 360 (You can buy it for additional $ 200 which makes Xbox 360 cost just like PS3.) Besides, the 20 GB hard drive comes in basic model and 60 GB drive comes in upgrade model. Besides the premium version of PS3 has WiFi built in.

Nintendo being the least expensive has the worst hardware built in therefore it shows the least productivity among Xbox 360 and PS3. It has a DVD drive but there is no ability to play DVD movies on it. However, it has WiFi built in to surf the web.

Games

Xbox 360 and PS3 are somewhat even in this classification because the number and the quality of games that are out there on the market are pretty even. PlayStation 3 is supposed to be better in graphics however there are still no games that would show the full possibility of this console.

Xbox 360 will run most of the games that have been created for Xbox but not all of them. On the other hand PlayStation 3 will run all the games of PS and PS2. However, these possibilities will have only the North American and Japan versions of PS3 but not the European version.

Nintendo supports all the games made for earlier consoles: GameCube, NES, SNES and Nintendo 64. However the graphics quality of the games is not that good as it is in Xbox 360 and PS3 games.

Multimedia

First of all I would like to say that Nintendo does not support big movies playback or storage, so we will leave this console out of this part of comparison. Although you can view photos, MPEG and QuickTime movies, MP3 music files on this console; and all that only from SD storage.

The real battle comes between the two mega consoles: Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 here. Fist PS3 was the only console that supported full HD, 1080p, but now Microsoft will upgrade all the Xbox 360 consoles to the same HD. So that evens them out.

Blu-ray drive gives an advantage to Sony PlayStation 3 in storing videos and any files on the disc as they can store much more info and a better game will fit on a bigger Disc.
HD Media Center Extender of Xbox 360 beats PS3 in everything that they can offer. It can show live and recorded HDTV over your network, besides it can download movies and TV shows from the web. The other thing that gives Xbox 360 an advantage is a support of Apple's iPod and Sony PSP. It is the only console that supports video and audio streaming from PC.

Audio support: PS3 has a 5.1 Dolby Surround sound which is not bad until you hear that Xbox 360 has a Multi-channel system that supports up to 256 discrete channels. Wii on the other hand supports Dolby Pro-Logic II.

Review: Calibur11 Base Vault targets PS3 owners now

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3 for short) can be said to be a success in its own right, and for the longest time, it was touted to be the cheapest Blu-ray disc player in town, and with the option to upgrade its firmware (unlike early models of other Blu-ray players), the PS3 made perfect sense from a home entertainment point of view. Gaming-wise, all the signature titles were there from the beginning, alongside some great third party titles as well.

As for the console itself, it has undergone a hardware revision along the way, looking much slimmer than what it originally was. Still, there is always room for improvement, otherwise we would all still be living in caves, wont we? Calibur11 knows this, which is why they have rolled out the Base Vault for the Ps3 this time around instead of just for the Xbox 360 previously.

Its hugely popular Vault system of 3D Gaming Armor and accessories line will cater for PS3 owners this summer, where you are able to customize them according to color, accessory and nameplate. Needless to say, these do not only look good on the outside, but the whole idea of them being there would be to deliver additional protection to the PS3. While the PS3 isnt something portable that needs higher grade protection, at least you wont have unwanted knocks or scratches appear on its chassis with the 3D Gaming Armor.

Among the accessories that you can choose from would be controller and headphone holders. For a more personalized experience, there is always the presence of personalized nameplates, where you can opt from 10 background templates that can each be imprinted with a tagline in the font and color of their choice. The Calibur11 Base Vaults for PS3 will retail from $59.99 onwards and customized nameplates will cost $17.99.

Review: Forza 4 set to turn heads at E3

Im headed to E3 next week, and I am pretty excited about what I am going to see. I am clearly not the only one, as you can see this video after the jump.

Apparently, a secret was given away as this one girls response was literally buzzed out. However, the video went on to show Forza 4's new head tracking feature that works with Kinect.

The designers of Forza 4 studied how people drive so they could make the game more exciting. They noticed that people tended to look out the side of their windows during turns and other moves, and they wanted to bring that experience to the console. Thanks to the Kinect, the player can virtually turn their head during a race.

That is a lot better than older video games. I still remember having to push a button to see out of the side of my cockpit in the early nineties Star Wars X-wing game. You can see in the video how smoothly it works, and how it does bring an element of realism to the game as most racing games force the player to constantly stay ahead.

Im wondering if this might work better with triple displays. After all, when the player turns his or her head, he or she is no longer looking at the screen in front of them. It is quite possible that this effect could be lost on someone playing it on a single screen.

Well, it will be on display at E3, so I look forward to trying it out for myself.

Review: Wappy Dog for 3DS

 Wappy Dog for 3DS

I guess that there is nothing that can be done with pet games other than linking them with real pets, but until that day, there is Wappy Dog.

Wappy Dog is from video games industry giant Activision, and the toy that you see in the picture is designed to wirelessly work in sync with a 3DS game. The Wappy Dog toy has light up cheeks that can express Wappys different mood states from unhappy to fully content via different colors.

As you might have guessed, the object is to make certain Wappy is a happy puppy, and to keep its cheeks the color of contentment. The player/user can talk to Wappy as it recognizes more than 18 different voice prompts, and it can respond with more than 350 barks that are translated with the 3DS.

Wappy also has another interesting feature that allows you play with the toy version while you are away. Whatever you did on the 3DS will be synced in with the Wappy toy when you arrive home.

Wappy should be available sometime around Christmas, but I am wondering why he is called Wappy. After all, when I think of a Wappy Dog, I think of my mother-in-laws Great Dane. I tell you, when that dog gets happy, its tail gets whappy as a small yet painful whip. I hope this toy robot dog cant wag its tail like that.

Review: Ten One Design unveils Fling mini game controller

Fling mini game controller

It must be said that the world of smartphones with touchscreen displays have launched plenty of new casual games, not to mention complex ones as well which require more than just tapping furiously on the display. Of course, the use of your finger(s) to manipulate a certain in-game avatar might take some getting used to, but what about those who prefer to have something more tactile?

Enter the Fling mini tactile game controller from Ten One Design this particular model will go one step further compared to the Fling for iPad that was unveiled at CES 2011 earlier this year in Las Vegas being a smaller version that ought to make a splash with other touchscreen capable devices. What does the Fling mini do? For starters, it will play nice with just about any smartphone model on top of the directional pad of any applicable game, helping you achieve an unprecedented level of control and superb response for a fully immersive gaming experience.

The Fling mini will come with a special spiral design that actually creates physical resistance for you to experience greater directional control. It will function with just about any iPhone or iPod touch game that uses a directional pad or virtual joystick, where among them include Meteor Blitz, Aralon: Sword and Shadow, Super Mega Worm, Robokill, Blade of Betrayal and Dink Smallwood.

Just like the Fling for iPad, if you want to make use of the Fling mini, just launch the game of your choice, secure Fling minis center control over the games directional pad and youre more or less good and ready to go all there is left to do would be to place your thumb on the center control in order to experience unprecedented ease of navigation in-game.

With a translucent and flexible design, it will offer an unrestricted view of all on-screen action. Not only that, throwing in suction cups will pave the way for simple attachment and detachment for spontaneous gaming sessions. Each purchase will come with a microfiber bag, making it perfect for on-the-go storage while doubling up as the perfect screen cleaning cloth that will help you do away with unwanted smudges and fingerprints.

You can purchase the 2-pack Fling mini for $24.95 if you (and your gaming fingers) are interested.
